The chapter
What does Folded actually do?
You write freely — a line a day, a paragraph when something happens. When you’re ready, Folded folds a stretch of that writing into one short, first-person chapter of about two hundred words: the two or three threads that ran through it, and the moment things shifted. It’s your year, read back to you in your own voice.
Do I have to journal every day?
No — and that’s the point. Folded reads back whatever you already wrote, however little. There’s no streak to keep, no prompt to answer, no habit to justify. If you only write when something happens, Folded still finds the shape of it.
What does a chapter read like?
Warm, unhurried, lightly literary — a memoir register, not a log and not a performance review. It names the real threads and the turning point, never scores you, never gives advice, and never invents a feeling you didn’t write. The aim is a page that reads as unmistakably you, not a generic “this year was about growth.”
Can I fold more than a year?
You choose the stretch — a month, a season, or a whole year. Each fold makes one short chapter from that window, so you can read back a hard month on its own or the shape of the whole year, whenever you like.
Your data
Does my writing leave my phone?
Never. The chapter is made on your iPhone using Apple’s on-device intelligence — there’s no account, no cloud of ours, and no network call. The model reads only what you wrote, on the device, and your writing stays there.
Is anything collected or tracked?
Nothing. No analytics, no tracking, no account. The App Store privacy label reads “Data Not Collected,” and our privacy policy is written to match it exactly. What you write is yours alone.
What happens to my journal if oomny disappears?
Nothing. Your entries and chapters live on your device, not on a server of ours — there’s nothing for us to shut down. The app keeps working with no company behind it, because it never needed one to run.
Can I delete everything?
Yes, yourself, instantly. Settings has a “delete everything” option behind a clear confirm that wipes every entry and chapter from your phone. No support ticket, no waiting on us — it’s your writing, so erasing it is yours to do.
Buying
Do I have to pay to use it?
No. Your first chapter is free, so you can feel what it’s like to read a sentence about yourself you couldn’t have written. Writing entries is always free; the one-time unlock is for folding as many chapters as you like.
What does the one-time unlock get me?
One purchase of €8.99 lifts the cap to unlimited chapters and lets you save and keep every one, instead of just your first. It’s a one-time unlock, with Family Sharing — bought once, yours forever.
Is it really one-time? You won’t switch to a subscription later?
Really, and no. It’s a written promise on our terms page: no converting your purchase to a subscription, no removing paid features. Folded reads back whatever you already wrote, so a monthly charge for it would make no sense — being the app that doesn’t do that is the point.
I got a new phone — is my unlock gone?
No. Your unlock is tied to your Apple ID, not to us. Sign in with the Apple account you bought with, open Folded → Settings → Restore Purchases, and it comes straight back.
How do refunds work?
Through Apple, like every App Store purchase: request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Who makes Folded?
